Piper-Heidsieck Champagne House and Jean Paul Gaultier are collaborating yet again. This time Gaultier has designed a seductive black bottle that offers tribute to the Cancan.
Considering the inspiration behind the bottle’s design I thought it would be interesting as well as insightful to provide a brief intro to the dance. The Cancan originated in working-class ballrooms of Montparanasse in Paris around 1830 and soon gained the reputation for being indecent. The word Can-Can in French means “scandal” and it is said to be the start of public nudity because of the bare legs above the stockings to the frilly panties and overtly sexual dance moves which at that time was considered provocative to the point of indecency. Overall the Cancan is a physically demanding high-energy dance, traditionally performed by a chorus line of female dancers that features the lifting up action and manipulation of the skirts, with high kicking and suggestive, provocative body movements.
For this edition of the Piper-Heidsieck Brut Millesime 2000 Jean Paul Gaultier coated the bottle in black satin latex and adorned the bottle with black fish netting to resemble the fishnet stockings Cancan dancers typically wear. Additional embellishments included jet black Swarovski crystals and corset detailing along the back.
The Piper-Heidsieck Brut Millesime 2000 bottle comes packaged in a deluxe suitcase featuring black lacquer with red lining and is accompanied by two crystal glasses from Schott Zwiesel. The ‘Black Cancan’ gift box is available in a limited edition and costs $499.
Beyonce’s Baby Bump Reveal
Beyonce made the big unveil during her entrance at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards while wearing a spectacular one-shouldered Lanvin gown in Pantone’s Tangerine Tango 2012 Color of the Year shade. The mum-to-be was seen clutching her belly lovingly displaying “the love that’s growing inside of me.” A line she later belted out during her performance of “Love On Top” while wearing a sequined purple Dolce & Gabbana tux.
April 29, 2011 was the day that over 2 billion people tuned in worldwide to watch the nuptials of Prince William and Catherine Middleton take place. The event itself was a spectacular masterpiece however it was the custom made creation by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen that the bride emerged in that was all the talk. The dress will be forever etched into the memories of millions and has become a part of fashion history.
H&M and Versace recently teamed up to release a capsule collection featuring the label’s classic style that has been reinterpreted through stunning prints, intricately studded leather pieces, silk dresses, costume jewellery and more. The collection was priced within an affordable price range in comparison to what the label usually charges for their pieces. This explains the eBay bidding wars that ensued as well as the reasoning behind how the collection sold out almost instantaneously nationwide.
Remembering Elizabeth Taylor
The world lost screen legend Elizabeth Taylor earlier this year on March 23rd, when she passed away in Los Angeles at the age of 79. Taylor’s belongings were recently itemized and categorized into a collection that was presented for auction at Christie’s. Hundreds of items ended up selling at sky high prices with bidding wars ensuing for the late two-time oscar winner’s prized possessions including vast amounts of jewellery that Taylor had amassed through out the years.
The Kardashian Wedding
Kim Kardashian married for the second time round, this time to NBA star Kris Humphries on August 20th, 2011. For the main event and walk down the aisle she wore an ivory ballgown with a full tulle skirt.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York recently housed an exhibition dedicated to the late British designer Alexander McQueen. Emma Watson Ends Harry Potter On Top!
2011 said goodbye to the Harry Potter film franchise and Emma Watson for one made sure to go out with a bang! The actress who made her name through the franchise took to red carpets and press events to promote Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. Banishing her familiar style, Watson rocked a series of dramatic designer looks from the likes of Oscar de la Renta, Rafael Lopez and Bottega Veneta as well as a sleek, chic cropped do in comparison to her long tresses that she became known for.
Today is my last post before I head to Germany for the holidays, I will attempt to update while there and share some of my adventures however meanwhile on to the next post:
Okay so is it just me or is there a current “Owl Obsession” trend going on lately? Seems whenever I go window shopping or browse stores online the cute little things keep popping up! Overall I think owls are beautiful creatures, they have unique proportions and are absolutely adorable especially during their infant stage! (lets face it most animals are cute, fluffy and cuddly when they are that young ;) Take a quick look at the video below to see my point.
In order to further prove my suspicions of the owl mania we are living in, I figured I’d select some items I thought were unique and share! Hope you enjoy my selections!

CDFA winner Prabal Gurung is the designer behind the beauty retail chain Sephora’s new uniforms for in-store beauty advisors. The current uniform has been in use since 2001 and finally in late April, employees eagerly begin wearing their stylish uniform.
“The beauty advisors work so hard to make their clients look and feel good. I was ecstatic with the opportunity to make them look just as amazing,” Gurung said at the unveiling of the garments in New York City. “I incorporated some of my favorite design elements into the uniforms, and although I won’t get to personally meet every individual advisor, it’s exciting to think they’ll be getting to know me by wearing these outfits.”
Gurung designed within Sephora’s existing color palette of red and black and delivered a chic yet functional shift dress with a vibrant panel of red as well as a fitted pant suit for women and sleek tailored separates for men.
Pantone recently announced “Tangerine Tango” is set to take the crown from 2011’s reigning hue, honeysuckle to become 2012 color of the year.
Described as a “spirited reddish orange” as well as “sophisticated but at the same time dramatic and seductive, Tangerine Tango is an orange with a lot of depth to it,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “Reminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset, Tangerine Tango marries the vivaciousness and adrenaline rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form a high-visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy.”
Overall the optimistic, enticing shade is meant to uplift and encourage positive energy and warmth. Truly a dramatic headliner in comparison to last year’s soft honeysuckle winner, this year Pantone has added a more outspoken color to the world’s color wheel, in addition to 2011’s honeysuckle, turquoise (2010), mimosa (2009), blue iris (2008), chili pepper (2007), sand dollar (2006), blue turquoise (2005), tigerlily (2004), aqua sky (2003), true red (2002) fuchsia rose (2001) and cerulean (2000).
Beauty Alert: With the recent crowning of Tangerine Tango as Pantone’s 2012 color of the year comes word that Sephora is teaming up with the color company just at the right time to bring consumers a new cosmetics line. The collection will be centered around the tangy orange featuring products to include makeup and beauty accessories with a price range from $18-$80.
The Versace Atelier Fall Winter 2011-2012 collection featuring Kasia Struss, is absolutely breathtaking and not to mention fashion forward with the combination of both eastern and baroque influences. The collection features magnificent, draping gowns embellished with crystals, fur, applique, lace and of course vibrant Versace prints.
Below are some of my favorite pieces from the collection and believe me this was very difficult to whittle down! Check out Versace to see the full collection.
Katy Perry was already spotted wearing the Oriental mini dress at the MTV Video Music Awards on August 28, 2011. Jennifer Lopez was another celeb who recently stepped out for the Glamour’s 2011 Women of the Year Awards who was extremely eager to wear the fierce, romantic, figure hugging number for the fashion giant, Versace.
Fashion is known for being adventurous, avant garde and sometimes just down right crazy! I’ve read mixed reviews surrounding Christian Loubtoutin’s “Alex Lion Paw” Pumps…However this hasn’t held back celebrities such as Blake Lively & Sarah Jessica Parker from snapping up the $4,995 furry pumps.
The pumps feature a light brown toe that segments into four protruding claw like “toes” with black jeweled talons as well as yellow pave crystals embellishing the stiletto heel and of course the signature Louboutin red soles.
Blake Lively rocked these pumps on the set of Gossip Girl while pairing them with a casual outfit whereas Sarah Jessica Parker was spotted with a “Little Red Ridding Hood” styled dress at a premiere for her recent movie “I Don’t Know How She Does It” back in August.
I think these pumps are rather quirky and forward thinking however personally I wouldn’t add these furry friends to my wardrobe ;) What do you think of these shoes? Let me know by commenting below!
Color Blocking is the combination of different solid colors that compliment one another to culminate in a dynamically chic ensemble. Are you brave enough to try it? Kate Winslet was and although color blocking is typically associated with the use of bold, vibrant colors the curvy actress stepped out in a more subtle toned (black, white & gray) figure hugging dress earlier this year when attending the red carpet for the Venice Film Festival.
Kate Winslet wearing Stella McCartney’s Octavia Dress priced at $1,600, on the red carpet at the 68th Venice Film Festival at Palazzo del Cinema on September 2, 2011 in Venice, Italy.
The Oscar winning actress looked absolutely stunning as she flaunted her curvy figure in a color blocked dress by Stella McCartney. The optical illusion dress was created with strategically placed black panels that transformed Kate’s figure into an hourglass proportion and gave the illusion of a slim, sleek physique.
Below are some tips on how to get your color block trend on as well as some affordable options that are guaranteed to flatter your figure whether you are wearing a dress, separates or want to add some flair to your outfit with some killer heels! I hope you enjoy the selections!
Subtle Yet High Contrasting
Too many bright colors together not your thing? That’s ok! I’ve got you covered, nothing says drama than the classic pairing of Black & White or the mixture of Nude & Black to offer a high contrasting statement. Combine your dress or separates with a sleek black/nude pair of heels to keep it simple, sophisticated and most importantly stylish.
Team up colors from the same family – think bright red with fuchsia or deep reds for a fiery statement, as well royal blue with turqoise. Combining these colors with black can also add more drama to your outfit.
With some bright, vivid combinations such as purple and orange or with a hint of yellow or lime green.
