Emerald Revealed as Pantone’s Colour Of The Year 2013

As 2012 draws to a close, Pantone is already giving us fashionistas something to look forward to as they announce Emerald, a vibrant lush green as Colour of the Year for 2013.

The authority on all things colour related has characterised Emerald as a hue that symbolises “a sense of clarity, renewal and rejuvenation, which is so important in today’s complex world.”

Following in the footsteps of last year’s spirited and energetic Tangerine Tango, Emerald is typically deemed as a “sophisticated and luxurious” colour and often strongly associated with precious gemstones, growth and prosperity, which leads me to believe that many of us will enjoy the journey through Emerald City this upcoming year.

In addition to this announcement, Pantone has once again collaborated with beauty powerhouse, Sephora to create the SEPHORA + PANTONE UNIVERSE™ 2013 Color of the Year beauty collection featuring PANTONE 17-5641 Emerald, which will be available exclusively at Sephora in March 2013. The limited edition collection is set to feature eye shadows, nail polish and accessories and I for one can’t wait to see what they come up with!

Tangerine Tango Reigns 2012

Pantone recently announced “Tangerine Tango” is set to take the crown from 2011’s reigning hue, honeysuckle to become 2012 color of the year.

Described as a “spirited reddish orange” as well as “sophisticated but at the same time dramatic and seductive, Tangerine Tango is an orange with a lot of depth to it,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “Reminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset, Tangerine Tango marries the vivaciousness and adrenaline rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form a high-visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy.”

Overall the optimistic, enticing shade is meant to uplift and encourage positive energy and warmth. Truly a dramatic headliner in comparison to last year’s soft honeysuckle winner, this year Pantone has added a more outspoken color to the world’s color wheel, in addition to 2011’s honeysuckle, turquoise (2010), mimosa (2009), blue iris (2008), chili pepper (2007), sand dollar (2006), blue turquoise (2005), tigerlily (2004), aqua sky (2003), true red (2002) fuchsia rose (2001) and cerulean (2000).

Beauty Alert: With the recent crowning of Tangerine Tango as Pantone’s 2012 color of the year comes word that Sephora is teaming up with the color company just at the right time to bring consumers a new cosmetics line. The collection will be centered around the tangy orange featuring products to include makeup and beauty accessories with a price range from $18-$80.
